The December break is on the horizon and although many of us go away on holiday, house robbers don’t because they’re left with easy pickings and would be foolish not to take advantage. This may sound negative, but unfortunately it is a reality. But you don’t have to accept it. There are steps you can take to try to avoid a break-in over the holidays.
Here is a checklist to get you started:
- Check all battery back-up or battery-driven security is working including sensor beams, portable panic buttons, smoke alarms, burglar alarms, automated roller shutters, driveway gates and garage doors.
- Check security doors and burglar proofing. Replace anything that has rusted or weakened. Good quality physical barriers are the best way of stopping house robbers from getting inside your home.
- Lock away anything left outside that robbers could use to break in, like garden tools.
- Lock your garage doors, including the ones that lead from the garage into the house.
- Close and lock all windows, doors, security gates, burglar proofing, patio and passage gates.
- Check that no keys are lying around for robbers to use. The best place to keep these is in your safe zone, which hopefully has a locked security gate in the passage or stairway and burglar bars on all windows.
- Set your alarm.
- Watch your driveway gate close behind you properly before you leave.
If you need to improve your home’s physical security to keep home invaders out, contact your nearest Trellidor RSA franchise or Trellidor International distributor and ask them to come and assess your property. They’ll recommend ways of doing this as well as the best products for your property.
Once you’ve now done all you can to keep your home safe from house robbers, relax and enjoy the holidays!
