We’ve all very excited about our new Trellidor Louvre Shutters, just launched at the East Coast Radio House and Garden Show in Durban. It has been in development for quite a while, but none of us knew quite what the end result would be until shortly before the show. The result of our D & D Department’s efforts is a louvre-style shutter that we’d all absolutely love to have in our homes.
Why do we love Trellidor Louvre Shutters?
So what about it has made us all so eager to share it with you? Well, for one thing, it would be a beautiful addition to any home, adding value as well as great security. It is a really attractive protective barrier for doors or windows and doesn’t look at all like a security product.
At first glance, the Trellidor Louvre Shutters doesn’t look vastly different to any other aluminium louvre shutter on the market. It isn’t until you take a closer look that you notice that our designers have really made these shutters a cut above the rest.
- The first point of departure from similar shutters is that there is no rod down the centre to operate the louvres. The Trellidor Louvre Shutters is noticeably uncluttered.
- The mechanism that opens and closes the louvres is hidden inside, so there are no metal bits on the outside. You simply open or close one louvre by hand and the rest follow.
- Our team developed unique S-shaped louvres to ensure that the louvres close snugly.
- This provides an upright panel with better rain run-off and less light penetration. When open, these louvres provide improved airflow.
Beautiful and strong
Let’s not forget, however, that this is first and foremost a security barrier. Our business is security, so our team had to ensure that the Trellidor Louvre Shutters was strong enough under attack to live up to our reputation for barrier excellence.
So with this in mind they:

Reinforced every single louvre with a threaded internal steel bar along the entire length of the louvre to make it as strong as possible under attack.

Added a patented bump-proof and pick resistant Trellidor locking system with unique key and serial number for added security.

Made sure that Trellidor Louvre Shutterss provide security even when the louvres are in the open position.

Then attacked the Trellidor Louvre Shutters to see how it performed.
You can see the attack test on the Trellidor website. It was probably more vigorous than it would be under most circumstances by robbers. They don’t generally arrive with a wide selection of tools and plenty of time to try their luck. Usually, they are in a hurry, have limited tools and need to be quick to avoid the risk of being found out.
We tested the Trellidor Louvre Shutters according to Trellidor test criteria and it stood up well, which is very reassuring. So this product isn’t just a pretty louvre! There is so much more to it than that.
