Buying second-hand security on-line can be misleading
Buying products on the internet can be a great cost saver. But misleading adverts can also dupe you into buying fakes. This is very worrying when your personal safety is at stake. So don’t be hoodwinked into buying bogus ‘Trellidor’ security gates and burglar bars.
Trellidor is a brand name
Trellidor is the name of the brand of security barriers that are manufactured at the Trellidor factory in Durban, South Africa.
It is a registered trademark and can only be lawfully used for products manufactured by Trellidor.
It is not the name used to describe all sliding security gates or barrier security products in general, even though people tend to use it in this way.
Website or print adverts headed ‘Trellidor double door security for windows’ or ‘Trellidor Slamlock for sale’ are not necessarily selling one of our products. The seller placing the advert is trading on a brand name they have no right to use in order to sell their second-hand goods.
There are, of course, times when people have renovated their homes and they have genuine Trellidor products to sell. But it’s a case of buyer beware. You need to do your research to be sure you are buying a real Trellidor product. Check out the distinguishing features on genuine Trellidor products in our video that explains the features.
What is wrong with purchasing a fake Trellidor gate?
If you know your second-hand gate isn’t a genuine Trellidor product and are happy with that knowledge, then there is no problem.
If you are buying it because you think it is a Trellidor gate, then these are the things you need to know:
- You have no recourse to Trellidor in terms of the product’s original warranty if you can’t prove it was fitted by a Trellidor technician.
- A security barrier re-fitted to an opening other than the one it was originally manufactured for won’t offer the same level of protection as one that was custom-made for that opening.
- Our franchises can only repair genuine Trellidor products, not fakes. It is quite easy for them to tell the difference as our products have distinguishing strengthening features.
- Trellidor locks are unique and patented. So if your second-hand Trellidor gate is genuine, your local franchise could replace a damaged lock for you at a cost. But they can’t help if it isn’t a real Trellidor security gate.
We’re happy to help you work around a tight budget. Just don’t compromise on your safety.
We understand restricted budgets. Apart from being Trellidorians, we are also husbands, wives and parents with conflicting demands on our monthly incomes. But we are also concerned that people purchasing second-hand Trellidor security barriers online are living with a false sense of security.
Your local Trellidor franchise can help you secure your home within your budget. There are many ways of doing this, such as installing high-end barriers in high security risk parts of your home and more economical barriers in less risky areas. Or choose to secure a safe zone only and not the whole house.
Contact your nearest Trellidor franchise for advice. At least then you’ll know that you are purchasing genuine Trellidor security barriers.
