All Frequently Asked Trellidor Warranty Questions Answered

Guarantee or warrantee? There is much confusion over these two terms. And when you throw in the Consumer Protection Act of South Africa, you’d be forgiven for not knowing where you stand in terms of who is responsible for what in terms of after-sales service and consumer goods. There are also companies that take advantage of people’s ignorance and offer guarantees that are usually impossible to enforce.

Trellidor offers warranties on all its security barriers. They are realistic and honest, providing assurances about the reliability of our products as well as after-sales assistance.

Here are answers to frequently asked questions about Trellidor warranties.

What is the difference between a guarantee and a warranty?

We’ve found two definitions that explain ‘guarantee’ and ‘warranty’. If you read further, you’ll find they had the same origins are a basically the same word but have evolved to have slightly different meanings.

  1. A warranty is “a promise or guarantee given.” A warranty is usually a written guarantee for a product, and it holds the maker of the product responsible to repair or replace a defective product or its parts. Dictionary.com
  2. A warranty is a guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the maker’s responsibility for it. In a sense, guarantee is the more general term and warranty is the more specific (that is, written and legal) term Meriam-webster.com

Does Trellidor provide a guarantee or warranty?

All Trellidor customers are given a warranty with the products we install for them. They are an assurance that we will follow up on any problems and apply to defective materials or components. These warranties can also be requested off the Trellidor website, using your contact details.

The Trellidor warranty is subject to the terms and conditions of sale and is limited to defective installation or faulty workmanship and the repair or replacement of non-conforming or defective materials or components. All rights under the Consumer Protection Act of 2008 apply to this warranty.

Will the product only last as long as the warranty period?

A warranty is not an indication of how long the product will last. Our products generally provide great protection for many years after the warranty has ended. We’ve had customers contact us 25 years after a sliding security gate has been installed, wanting the locks changed or gate parts serviced.

Trellidor is a reputable manufacturer and supplier of security products and has been the leader in this industry for well over 40 years. This is an indication that the company will always be around to attend to any problems our customers have with our products.

When does the Trellidor warranty become invalid?

Consumer rights come with responsibilities and these usually involve caring for the product and not neglecting it. Here are the conditions that invalidate a Trellidor warranty:

  • Any defects arising from fair wear and tear or wilful damage that is caused due to negligence, tampering, abnormal working conditions, failure to follow use instructions (whether oral or in writing) or misuse.
  • Any defects that arise from damage caused due to installations, alterations or repairs being carried out by persons other than a Trellidor approved technician.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of the product as per our product care instructions has not been carried out. Find out more about how to clean your security barrier.
  • There has been a power failure/power spike/lightning damage to electric locks and motors etc.

What warranties are given on Trellidor products?

Trellidor manufactures a variety of security barrier designs in several different materials. Some ranges have various configurations and parts, so the warranty differs from product to product. The time frames are listed here under each product name.

1. Retractable security gate warranty

These are the sliding, trellis-style security gates that made Trellidor famous. They are still our most popular design more than 40 years after we introduced them to the market, both in South Africa and around the world.

There are various models in the range, from gates designed to protect households to incredibly strong ones certified internationally for high risk locations such as underground train stations.

Trellidor makes retractable security gates in steel or aluminium. The warranties are as follows:

INLAND

Materials (steel):                             5 Years

Materials (aluminium):                  5 Years

Locks and Cylinders:                      3 Years

Electric Lock:                                    1 Year

COASTAL

Materials:                                          3 Years

Materials (aluminium):                    5 Years

Locks and Cylinders:                        3 Years

Electric Lock:                                      1 Year

2. Fixed security gates warranty

Fixed security gates are made by Trellidor as window burglar proofing. They look the same as the retractable security gates but do not open and close. Because they match, the retractable gates and fixed gates are often ordered together for doors and windows so that there is visual continuity within the home or office building.

The warranties are:

INLAND

Materials:                                          5 Years

Locks, Cylinders and Hinges:         3 Years

COASTAL

Materials:                                          3 Years

Locks, Cylinders and Hinges:         3 Years

3. Trellidor Clear Guard warranty

Clear Guard has been a great success since Trellidor introduced it to the South African market. This is because it is strong, see-through, and so elegantly designed that it doesn’t look like a security barrier at all.

It is an excellent security barrier but is often chosen for other reasons such as its ability to block out mosquitoes and monkeys when windows and doors are open for fresh air, or for estates where conventional burglar proofing is prohibited.

The warranty is:

INLAND

Materials:                                          5 Years

Locks, Cylinders and Hinges:         3 Years

COASTAL

Materials:                                          3 Years

Locks, Cylinders and Hinges:         3 Years

4. Trellidor Cottage Guard warranty

Cottage Guard is exactly what is says: cottage pane-style burglar bars. They are made from aluminium, so corrosion is not an issue, and they are reinforced with steel bars inside the aluminium tubing.

This burglar-proofing is robust and long-lasting with the following warranty:

INLAND

Materials:                                            5 Years

COASTAL

Materials:                                            5 Years

5. Poly Guard warranty

Poly Guard is popular for lower crime risk areas and for keeping monkeys out of homes. Most suppliers just attach the polycarbonate bars to your window frame, so they don’t offer very reliable security.

Trellidor Poly Guard has an aluminium frame on all four sides that provides stability, strength, and style. It is a much more dependable form of security and has the added benefit of being virtually invisible.

The warranty is:

INLAND

Materials:                                            5 Years

COASTAL

Materials:                                            5 Years

6. Louvre Shutters warranty

Aluminium louvre shutters are increasingly popular as a window treatment because of their trendy looks. Trellidor includes strengthening features that make these shutters window treatments and security barriers in one lovely product.

The warranty is:

INLAND

Materials:                                           5 Years
