What are Clear Burglar Bars?
Clear Burglar Bars, otherwise known as Transparent Burglar Bars, are invisible burglar bars made from polycarbonate. Polycarbonates are a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in the carbonate structures. They are easily worked, moulded and thermoformed in different grades on the basis of the application desired.
Products made from polycarbonates carry the following qualities:
- High impact & fracture resistance.
- Better heat resistance (Stable over a range of temperatures with a glass transition temperature of about 147°C to 155 °C).
- Durable with toughness.
- Easy to handle and relatively light.
The thermoplastic used to manufacture Transparent Burglar Bars is also used to create airplane windows, bulletproof glass, sound walls, electrical & electronics, and other personal security applications.
How strong are Clear Burglar Bars?
The above-mentioned applications give insight into how solid and secure Clear Burglar Bars are. High-density polycarbonate bars are stronger than steel and provide secure levels of protection. They have high impact-resistance and low scratch-resistance. This thermoplastic that is used for airplane windows and bulletproof glasses, as remarked about already, also cannot be snapped when bent out of shape – unlike acrylic or perspex. The thickness varies from 5-7mm.
Polycarbonate is a virtually indestructible material, which is the primary reason why it is used in high demand applications such as cockpits of fighter jets, shields used by riot control police, Formula One cars, and high-speed trains. It boasts high tensile strength and its burglar bars are also flexible. Even cutting the bar at a single point won’t provide access, as the part will snap back into its place.
