Keeping Children Safe

Trellidor franchises help protect our children

Violence against children is so prevalent in our society that it has become a scourge. But there are some good people out there trying to help, including Trellidor franchises. Here are some examples of how they’ve made a difference within their communities.

Security gates protect Khayelitsha school kids

Noluthando School for the Deaf in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, had experienced one break-in too many when it came to the attention of Trellidor Lansdowne franchise owner John Petersen. This is a Section 21 school that caters for over 300 children from the age of 14 that have barriers to learning, not necessarily all hard of hearing. They are doing a sterling job equipping youngsters for life in the adult world.

Robbed during school hours

But they’d been robbed at gun point twice during school hours. There were swing gates at the Administration entrance as well as the Autism Unit.

“These gates were usually left open because letting people in and out constantly disrupted teaching in the classrooms,” said John.

A Trellidor solution

“John and his team fitted Trellidor Retractable security gates with electric locks and key pads so that the teachers could control who goes in and out without affecting their pupils,” said Bianca Steele, Trellidor Franchise Manager (Coastal).

The pupils and staff now feel much safer. Doors can be left open for fresh air on hot summer days without fear of attack, as long as the security gates are closed and locked.

Principal T M Mavuka said that “there is no way to fully express our gratitude for your loyalty. We are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of sponsors like yourself who answer the call to give to our school.”

Kimberley kindergarten safer

The owners of Trellidor Kimberley, came to assistance of their local kindergarten school.

The school needed to upgrade its security but just didn’t have the funds so Trellidor Kimberley decided to install a Trellidor Retractable security gate that they had in stock as a donation to the school.

The school was very grateful for the assistance because children won’t wander out unsupervised and criminals are effectively blocked from getting in unnoticed.

Midrand children’s home secured

The Trellidor Midrand franchise installed a Trellidor Retractable security gate to help protect children and their carers at the Child Welfare SA Sibusiso Safe House. It is a home for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

The Child Welfare SA website notes that there are many children’s homes in Midrand but they are often full. No new places are available for children in crisis situations that need immediate placement in a Place of Safety.

Sibusiso Safe House allows Child Welfare to accommodate children in urgent need in a safe environment until an appropriate long term arrangement has been made for that child. The Trellidor donation of a security gate is part of that effort to protect the most vulnerable in our society.

There are many more stories like these to read on the Trellidor website.
