Trellidor products have a reputation for being dependable under attack. This reputation has been hard won over many years of product testing. The aim has always been to keep people as safe as possible behind our barriers. Read why testing and certification are so crucial.
Many barriers on the market look similar. It is difficult to tell which barrier is dependable and strong. Or which one will let you down when you need it most. The grade of metal used, the way the gate is constructed, and the type of lock inserted into the gate all make a difference to its strength under attack.
There is no local watchdog body in SA that tests security barriers. This means there are no set standards to use to judge and rate them. There is also no way to find out how they will stand up to an attack by criminals.
With no reliable testing, strength claims are just marketing talk. There should be verifiable evidence to back up these claims. It’s the responsible action to take because barriers are installed to help save lives during a crisis.
This is why the Trellidor team went the international route. People need be sure that their security barriers are up to the task of protecting them. Claims must be backed up by facts. We take the safety of our customers seriously, so we set about building a legacy of strength.
For over 20 years we have sent products overseas for LPCB testing and certification. LPCB stands for ‘Loss Prevention and Certification’ and the tests are carried out by BRE Global. This is highly respected, independent third-party testing used by many international companies.
Security barriers that pass this rigorous testing are amongst the strongest in the world. The people that do the LPCB attack testing at BRE Global are professionals. They simulate a criminal attack using different tools and methods. The aim is to break through the barrier. The standard they set is high. An effective physical security barrier is classed as one that deters or delays an attacker for a set period of time.
The length of time the barrier holds out under attack dictates the level of certification it receives. There are five levels of LPCB rating, with 1 being the lowest. There are very few sliding security gates in the world that survive these attack tests. Those that do are awarded a Certificate of Product Approval by BRE Global. Trellidor currently has three certified sliding security gates.
The first certified Trellidor sliding security gate achieved an international rating in the year 2000. It was our Trellidor Plus – T900 retractable gate and it achieved LPCB rating level 1. This gate is still part of our certified product range.
Today Trellidor has several certified designs. The Trellidor Trojan II-T1000 security grille is certified to Level 2. The Trellidor Trojan 3 EMESC T3000 security grille is certified to Level 3. This is the highest level achieved by sliding security grilles anywhere in the world. View certification details
The testing standards apply to the manufacturing process too. Independent audits are done at the Trellidor factory in Durban to ensure that warranty claims are genuine. These audits cover ISO 9001 requirements, quality of raw materials, assurance of guarantees and warranties. They provide reassurance about the quality of protection against crime being provided.
Certified quality is a guarantee that can be trusted. It indicates that your supplier is providing you with the best security barriers you can afford. The constant audits by the independent testing body ensures that quality standards are maintained. This filters down from the top of the range products to the more affordable ones.
The Trellidor team does not randomly design products and submit them for testing. This would be a futile exercise, with potentially no market for them. We work closely with customers the world over to establish what they need. We discuss required product strength and practical aspects like ease of operation and workable locking systems.
Our barriers are in demand because we listen to customer needs. Certified Trellidor products can be found in well-known international retail chain stores like Sainsbury’s and in London Underground Stations. We’ve secured places like transport hubs, embassy staff homes and offices in volatile countries.
Homes generally don’t need certified products to protect them. But it is reassuring to know that our company spends a sizable amount of revenue on achieving international ratings. Any company prepared to do this is one that cares about family safety too.
We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe in the places they live and work. Our willingness to submit our designs to international scrutiny shows customers that they’re getting the best protection they can afford within their budget.
As a responsible manufacturer, we don’t compromise on people’s safety. The lessons learned while preparing barriers for testing are applied to all Trellidor designs. Our barriers are all manufactured to the same high standard as the certified products, even those offered at lower price points for budget-conscious customers
Trellidor customers lock out the fear of crime with barriers they can depend on. Nothing is 100 percent impenetrable, of course. But good quality barriers give you the best chance of being safe. They will stand up to an attack long enough to make an escape or call for help.
