Trellidor was an enthusiastic co-sponsor of the Compendium Sunday Tribune Hill2Hill mountain bike marathon that took place between Pietermaritzburg and Durban in September. Nothing, not even rain, wind and mud could dampen the Trellidor team’s spirits.
Here is a run-down of the soggy but spirited event by Trellidor International Sales and Marketing Manager Kevin Bonner:
“The Trellidor marketing team including Shannon Botha, Ryan Stoltz, Andries Mosupye, Paul van Blerk, Ryno du Preez and myself were very involved in putting the two day event together. We were ably assisted by the Trellidor Highway franchise, owned by the Coetzee family, who manned the Trellidor Safe Park; Trellidor North Durban consisting of owner Laird Anderson and his crew; and Trellidor Durban South and Central owner Mathew Goetsch. Also there to help on the day were Operations Director Chris Wright and his family and Trellidor CEO Terry Dennison.
We manned a water table on the famous Hill and Dale on both race days and installed a Trellidor Safe Bike Park where riders could leave their bikes in safe hands after the race. We also had a Bike Tech Zone for repairs to bikes.
So we were very well prepared for everything except the weather. It was appalling on the second day! Over 2000 riders had entered, but due to atrocious weather conditions only about 1200 riders competed over the two days.
Although the down side was the sea of mud, the upside was that the pack of riders generally rode this event as one, helping each other to get through both days in great spirits. The die-hard riders made the most of very trying conditions and racing up front was fierce.”
All winners
The 45km race was won by Jedsome Tooms (1h46 25km/h Av) and the 100km race winner was Brandon Davids (3h39 27km/h Ave). The Back2Back Challenges for the combined shortest time over both races were won by Jedsome Tooms and Brenda Potts. James Neville was also a winner as he received the lucky draw prize of R5 000 worth of Trellidor security barriers.
“The highlight of the weekend was the Trellidor water table. We had brilliant feedback from so many riders as to how incredible the water point was, from the signage to the music and general service we provided. We had great food, a bike wash, bike mechanic, and as always, great spirit from the Trellidor team despite it being freezing cold and sopping wet.
The Hill2Hill race slogan is ‘no guts, no story’ and was entirely appropriate for the 2016 edition. Well done to everyone involved in this project!”
